Fire in Sausalito

At around noon on October 17, a fast-moving brush fire broke out along the southbound side of Highway 101. Local fire departments, with assistance from the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection, quickly arrived at the scene, containing and extinguishing the fire before it spread out of control. Marin County spokesperson Laine Hendricks told SFGate that the fires were under control at 1:59 p.m.

There was a mandatory evacuation on a few roads. According to a police officer directing traffic at exit 445A, most of the roads near the fire had been evacuated.

“To be honest, I’m just glad my family and our house are safe and no damage has been done,” Sausalito resident Kelly Davlos said.

A Sausalito resident, Kelly Davlos said “one lane of the southbound highway was open around 2:50 pm. Firefighters fought the fire for hours, and eventually needed help from the air. There have been around 10 helicopters going back and forth for around an hour taking water from the bay and dumping it on the fire,”

As Davlos picked up her daughter from school, she heard sirens from fire trucks nearby. Dismissing the thought of any danger, Davlos did not think much of the sirens until a mother ran into the room screaming, claiming that there was a fire nearby. Davlos rushed home with her daughter and gathered her things. “We were ready to leave, and we had all of our things in the car.”

Luckily, an evacuation was not required, as firefighters put out the blaze and Davros and her family were no longer in harm’s way.

Not too many people were ordered to evacuate, but there were a few roads where evacuation was mandatory. According to a police officer directing traffic at exit 445A, most of the roads near the fire had been evacuated. “To be honest, I’m just glad my family and our house are safe and no damage has been done”, said Davlos as ash fell from the sky around her.
