Lady Hawks Clinch First Place in League Play

The Tam girls’ varsity soccer team faced off against the Redwood Giants at home in a classic Senior Day division rivalry on Tuesday, April 28. The game started off with a lot of back and forth, but senior Lauren Lampl opened up the floodgates for Tam with a goal off of a corner kick in the 30th minute. Senior Bella Amyx then followed that up with two goals in quick succession to bring the score to 3-0 going into halftime. Redwood needed to counter quickly in order to give themselves a chance in the game, but Tam’s defense held strong. Amyx was able to complete her hat trick in the 70th minute and Tam went on to win 4-0. With that victory, the Lady Hawks clinched the first place spot in MCAL league play and consequently a bye in the first round of playoffs.

After the game Amyx remarked on the significance of this win. “Last year we lost to Redwood 1-4 on their Senior Day and I think everyone wanted to go out there and get revenge,” she said. “And that’s what we did; we went out and played hard.”

Following the game, nine graduating seniors – Lampl, Amyx, Shanna Barnett, Jackie Flax, Michaela Firmage, Hannah Monroe, Jackie O’Boyle, Tatum Robach, and Kara Waluk – from the team were celebrated with Senior Day festivities.

“The seniors were great leaders and showed the youngsters how to get it done,” coach Shane Kennedy said. “They’re all about leadership, support, and putting the team first.”

The girls have one regular season game remaining against Branson on Thursday, April 30 and then will move on to the MCAL playoffs where they will defend their championship title.
