Sports Recap: Week of 5/4

VARSITY SOFTBALL SUFFERS LOSS TO RIVAL REDWOOD

The varsity softball team lost to Redwood 14-1 on May 4, bringing their MCAL league record to 5-5.

Sophomore Kendall Lafranchi, sophomore Anna Reichenbach, and senior Chloe Jacobs contributed the only four hits of the game in the loss.

 

VARSITY GOLF TEAM DOESN’T QUALIFY PAST NCS DIVISION I

The varsity golf team participated in the NCS Division I qualifying tournament on May 4, and unfortunately didn’t qualify as a team.

Senior and Tam News editor-in-chief Riley Kuffner won the right to participate in the Tournament of Champions by shooting 82. “It was very exciting as he made a clutch putt to seal the deal,” head coach Dustin Nygaard said.

 

VARSITY BASEBALL LOSES TO BRANSON

The varsity baseball team lost 5-0 to Branson on May 5, bringing their record to 7-7 in the league and 13-7 overall.

“We are having trouble generating any kind of offense,” head coach Scott Osder said. “We made a few mistakes and we are fighting for our MCAL playoff lives.”

 

VARSITY SOFTBALL LOSES AT JUSTIN-SIENA

The varsity softball team lost 8-2 at Justin-Siena on May 6, bringing their record to 10-7 overall and 5-6 in the MCAL.

Sophomore Anna Reichenbach went two for four, scoring a run and stealing three bases in the loss.

 

VARSITY SOFTBALL BEATS DRAKE

The varsity softball team beat Drake 6-2 at Drake on May 7, bringing their overall record to 11-7 and their MCAL league record to 6-6. They are now fifth in the MCAL.

Senior Chloe Jacobs threw a complete game, allowing just one run and six hits and striking out two. Jacobs also went one for three with an RBI and a run scored. Sophomore Jonny Sekula hit a triple and two singles and scored a run. Sophomore Anna Reichenbach stole two bases, giving her the lead for stolen bases in the MCAL with 20.

“We’re hoping to climb into fourth place after next week,” head coach Erin Lawley said.

 

VARSITY BASEBALL BEATS TERRA LINDA

The varsity baseball team beat Terra Linda 8-1 on May 7, at Terra Linda. This brought their overall record to 14-7 overall and 8-7 in MCALs, putting them in fifth place.

Senior Patty Shore hit a bases loaded double and senior Jack Harris pitched five innings and got the win.

 

SUCCESFUL TRACK COMPETITION

A track competition took place on May 7, bringing the track team’s overall record to 25-2. The boys beat Redwood and lost to Drake and the girls beat Drake but lost to Redwood.

“The JV boys easily won their division, and the Varsity girls and Varsity boys came close to winning theirs,” said coach Bob McLennan.

 

VARSITY BASEBALL BEATS NOVATO

The varsity baseball team beat visiting Novato 4-3 on May 8, bringing their overall record to 15-7 and their MCAL league record to 9-7. Sophomore Will Muir hit a sacrifice fly to score Junior Trevor Bukowski in the bottom of the seventh inning for a walk-off win over Novato.
