Sports Recap: Week of 9/8

BOYS VARSITY WATER POLO WINS AT ALHAMBRA

The boys varsity water polo team won 22-10 at Alhambra on September 9, bringing their overall record to 2-0. They still have yet to play a league game. “[It was] an important NCS match,” said head coach Bob Kustel.

CROSS COUNTRY ATTENDS FIRST MEET

The cross country team attended the Stinson Beach Relays on September 9, for their first meet. The girls came in first place and the boys team came in third place. Junior Neil Johnson ran for the boys’ 4th fastest time overall and juniors Lizzy Labeeuw-Anderson and Olivia Phillips tied for the girls’ 2nd fastest overall time. “Both Boys and Girls Cross Country teams did well,” said coach Sylvia Goodman.

GIRLS VARSITY GOLF WINS AT NOVATO

The girls varsity golf team won 209-234 at Novato on September 10, bringing their overall record to 3-2 and their league record to 2-2. Junior Courtney Chang achieved a 45, followed by junior Sabrina Haechler’s 49,  and senior Maddie Stoops’ 55. “We battled through initial mid afternoon heat and came away with a…victory,” said head coach John Haight.

BOYS VARSITY WATER POLO ATTENDS SIERRA SHOOTOUT TOURNAMENT

The boys varsity water polo team came in sixth place out of 32 teams at the Sierra Shootout Tournament in Rocklin, California on September 11. They won three of the five games, bringing their record to 5-2. They beat Mira Lomo 13-3, Ripon 9-8, and Del Oro 6-5. They lost to Sanger 6-5 and Justin 9-8. Senior Jackson Hettler totaled 12 goals in the tournament, followed by freshman Connor King’s eight and junior and Tam News Reporter Connor Norton’s seven. “[Tam] remarkably played four straight games decided by one goal, two in Sudden Death,” said head coach Bob Kustel.

VARSITY FOOTBALL GETS FIRST WIN AT HOME

The varsity football team beat Balboa at home 55-18 on September 12, to bring their overall record to 1-2, completing their first victory. They play their first league game on September 26 at Novato. “We needed a win really badly,” said head coach Jon Black. “We had a good week of practice, and that good week of practice translated to a good job in the field.” CLICK HERE for extended coverage.
