As one of Tam’s few Division One sports, boy’s varsity tennis has been competing at a high level for the past four years. Under coach Bill Washauer, Tam tennis has developed into one of the premier programs in the Marin County Athletic League (MCAL). Winning the MCAL title two out of the last four years, the team expects to make yet another run this upcoming season.
This year, the team is led by senior captains Alex Finci and Reis Dorit as well as junior captain Matia Jovanovic. As the only two seniors on this year’s team, Dorit and Finci are ready to fulfill the leadership roles.

“It was truly an honor to be selected as one of Tam’s captains,” Dorit said. “Alex and I have been through a lot together and we’re really excited to take up the leadership roles for this year’s team. We’ve put in a lot of work towards our development and we now know what we’re capable of.”

Knowing that they have lost nine players, six of whom graduated and three whom left the team for other pursuits, Tam lacks much of the experience they have had in years.

“We know we have few upperclassman to lead the team compared to last year’s team but we have faith that our other players will be able to step up,” Dorit said. “Being a part of this team for three years has taught me that anything is possible and [any team] could be upset. We will be able to surprise some teams this year because they’re confident they’ll win against us which gives us, that much more motivation to win.”
The team has had a rough start, dropping three out of their first five games. The captains believe it is all part of their progression and development as players.

“We know we’re not the 24-4 team we were last year,” Finci said. “But this year we have faith that we’re going to surprise some teams. Coach Bill (Washauer) has scheduled a tough preseason for us and our early struggles have only inspired us to work harder in our practices than ever before.”

In light of playing the difficult preseason competition from the start, Coach Bill Washauer trusts that it is all part of the process of improving.

Dorit also believes that this year’s team is destined for success.

“I think we have a experienced coaching staff will help greatly with how we do this year,” Dorit said. “Coach Bill has learned a lot with playing at Harvard and coaching many successful teams. He has convinced everyone to buy in to the program so that we can succeed. As the new underdog, our team’s camaraderie and commitment are stronger than ever. We expect nothing but the same success we have had in the last couple of years.” ♦
