Students dashed across campus as the rain pelted them December 15. Traffic jammed the roads, while police shut down part of Miller Avenue and Camino Alto due to flooding. The parking lot off of Camino Alto became a lake and according to several students, two kayakers paddled around while people had to wade in the water to get to their cars. The flooding was caused by a combination of heavy rain, high winds, and a king tide thrown into the mix. King tides are the result of a high tide when the sun and moon are aligned which increases their gravitational pull on Earth. The Mill Valley Fire Department said they notified many residents in the area.
