Boys’ varsity soccer beat Arcata High school 2-1 in the first round of NCS playoffs on November 6. The Hawks took an early lead when Senior Jackson Wong kicked a long cross to senior Teddy Mauze who scored with a diving header.

Tam kept its 1—0 lead until 8 minutes into the second half when Arcata scored on a drive inside the penalty box. Senior Lucas Janetos responded with a quick drive down the field that ended in a goal.  The Hawks maintained this lead despite a free kick near the end of the game.

Coach Dustin Nygaard was happy with his teams win, but cited missed opportunities as their biggest issue.

“We did a pretty good job of creating opportunities, but we should have converted more of the opportunities we had.”

After advancing through their other matchups, Tam now faces Montgomery in the NCS championship game.

When asked what Tam needs to improve upon, Nygaard said, “At this time of year, it’s win or go home, so we have to get sharper in all facets of the game.”
