On Tuesday September 13th, Boys’ Varsity Water Polo kicked off their MCAL season against the Novato Hornets. The Hawks came out strong and anxious to start their season with a victory, and they did just that. From the beginning, it was a blowout By the end of the first quarter, the Hawks were leading 8-1 and the starters were no longer needed. Through the last three quarters of the game, every player on the roster was utilized and the pace stayed the same as boys continued to dominate. By the end of the game, 14 out of the 19 active field players scored a goal, and the Hawks walked away with a 19-4 win over the Hornets.
Coach Bob Kustel was very pleased with the outcome. “Well it’s always nice to get a good ‘W’ on the season opener. The boys all looked good, everybody got to play, and ya know, we got a very strong club,” he said. Kustel was especially pleased by the amount of depth on the team. “The whole bench got to play and a bunch of them scored goals so it was a good team win,” Kustel said. The team ranks high among MCAL and NCS contenders and just recently beat Marin Academy, a top contender for their league (BAC), in a scrimmage. The hopes are high for this season as the Hawks look to take a championship. “Well we’re seven and one [in the preseason] and I think we will contend for the MCAL and NCS championships. That’s the goal and we should be right there,” said Kustel.
The Hawks will try to continue their dominance against Marin Academy on September 22.
