A bomb threat was called into the Osher Marin Jewish Community Center (JCC) in San Rafael on Tuesday, January 17. It was one of 27 bomb threats to various JCC’s across the nation.
According to Iris Lax, director of marketing and strategic projects at the JCC, all the buildings on the campus quickly evacuated. “We evacuated… the entire building and the preschool and notified all of our campus partners. There is a day school and a synagogue so we made sure that everybody was evacuated safely and quickly and taken to an evacuation sight and pre-school families were contacted to come pick up their children because they closed the school for the rest of the day,” she said. “The JCC opened… a couple hours later once we got the all clear from local law enforcement.”
Lax said she considers the act one of anti-semitism, adding, “We are here to provide wonderful services for people in our community and something like this just disrupts all of that.”
Law enforcement is still investigating the source of the threat.
