The annual Oakland Black College Expo will be held at the Oakland Marriott Center on Feb. 17.
“The Black College Expo is an opportunity for students (primarily those who identify as Black or African-American) to meet with over 50 colleges,” Jeanine Evains-Robinson, Senior Director of Student Services at tamalpais High School, wrote in an email to teachers at Tamalpais High School.
The expo is organized by the National College Resources Foundation (NCRF), and has helped over 600,000 students get into college in the past 21 years, according to a posting on the ticket sales website Eventbrite.
Colleges will be giving out scholarships and acceptances “on the spot”, according to the NCRF.
Students who are interested must submit an application essay by Feb. 6 and bring transcripts and SAT/ACT test scores to win a scholarship.
The event will also be waiving application fees and giving away cash prizes.
