The Tam varsity girls field hockey team made history Friday with a 1-0 victory over arch rival Redwood in a tightly contested match at home. Senior captain Veronica Ray scored the game’s only goal in the first half, guiding the Hawks to their first-ever win over Redwood. The historic moment came in front of an energized home crowd, setting the tone for what the team believes could be a championship season.
“It feels awesome,” said senior Ali Jampol. “We had a great mindset going in, and the fact that we beat them — it was the first time in history. Our team is great this year..”
The Hawks spoke on how their pregame mindfulness and visualization exercises pregame were key to staying composed under pressure.
“Before the game, we sat in silence, breathed, and visualized ourselves scoring and winning,” said senior co-captain Sarah Cormier. “We really manifested the win.”
Fellow senior Quinlin Dayton agreed: “We’ve never beaten them before, so I was hopeful but unsure. But in the locker room, the vibes were really hype. We all just locked in — we knew today was the day.”
The captains emphasized the importance of team spirit and unity. “Our biggest role is getting the team spirit up and making it a bonded community,” Ray said. “We lead both on and off the field.”
Tam’s next match is set for Wednesday as the team looks to carry momentum into the rest of the MCAL season.
