Tamalpais girls volleyball dominated Cardinal Newman 3-0 at Gus Gym on Tuesday night. Tamalpais entered the match 8-2 on the season, while Cardinal Newman had struggled at 4-7.
Tam started strong, with Emme Sandgren recording two aces to open the match, and the Hawks carried that energy throughout. After jumping to a 5-0 lead, Cardinal Newman answered quickly and cut the score to 11-10. The Cardinals then scored seven straight points to push for a comeback, but Tam closed out the set 25-20.
In the second set, Tam rolled to a 25-17 win, then carried that momentum into the third, finishing 25-16 for the sweep.
The last time these two teams met, in August 2024, the result was the same: Tam 3, Cardinal Newman 0. Junior Ava West credited the team’s bond and positive approach for their success. “I feel that the team is very bonded, so we have a very positive and hopeful mindset the whole game.”
According to MaxPreps, Tamalpais is currently ranked No. 22 in the state and No. 1 in the North Coast Section Division 2 rankings.
