Tamalpais girls volleyball dominated Cardinal Newman, sweeping them 3-0 at home Tuesday night. Tamalpais came into the match flying high with an 8-2 start to the season, while Cardinal Newman struggled more in its first 11 matches, going 4-7.
Tamalpais started strong with Emme Sandgren recording two aces to start off the match for the Hawks and they kept that energy throughout. Tam went up 5-0 but Cardinal Newman pushed back and brought the score to 11-10. Cardinal Newman then scored seven unanswered points to almost steal the set, but Tam held on to win 25-20. In the second set Tam won 25-17, and then the team used that momentum to win the final set 25-16.
The last time these two teams met in August 2024, it was the same result: Tam 3 Cardinal Newman 0. Ava West, a junior outside hitter for Tam, attributed the team’s success to confidence and their good attitude: “I feel that the team is very bonded, so we have a very positive and hopeful mindset throughout the whole game,” West said.
Via Maxpreps the Tamalpais girls volleyball team is ranked No. 32 in California and first in the North Coast Section division II rankings.
