On Wednesday night, the Tamalpais Red-Tailed Hawks played the Redwood Giants in Gus Gym. Both teams came into the game ranked in the top 10 in the North Coast Section. The last time these two teams faced off was September 25, 2024, where Redwood dominated the game winning 3-1. Tam went into this game 11-4, versus Redwood’s 8-6.
Redwood came out hot commanding the first two sets of the game, winning the first 25-17 and the second 25-13. Sets were not connecting well and they were not playing to the ability they displayed on Friday night against San Marin.
In the third set, Tam flipped a switch. They went up 10-5. The crowd noise started to escalate, seeing a comeback arise. “I cheered so hard, I cut my hand open,” said junior outside hitter Willa Kruse. The two teams began exchanging points. At a score of 17-15, senior Natalie Stanford took control of the game with some strong kills and spikes. Tam won the set 25-18.
In the fourth set, Redwood regained control, winning the first seven points of the set. Coach Ray called a timeout, attempting to gather his team’s energy once again. It worked, as Tam won six consecutive points, making it a score of 6-7. That did not last, as the Giants went up 15-8, eventually closing out the game 25-16. The Hawks hope to get back on track on Friday against Archie Williams.
