The Tamalpais girls varsity volleyball team came up with a dominant win over San Marin on the road Friday, moving to 10-3 on the season. The Hawks were favored in the game and did not disappoint, completing the sweep with scores 25-19, 25-18, 25-14.
Tam’s Pomona-Pitzer commit Makayla Sheffer had a an all around good game including impressive spikes and blocks.
“I was really pleased with Luca’s (Eliot) blocking… Jade Savala and Jennie (Berman) had some really good defense, they made a lot of hustle plays,” Coach Ray Karter said after the win.
Jade Curtin-Savala and Jennie Berman excelled, hustling on every play and never giving up when the play seemed destined to be over. Tam was leading almost the entire game and every time San Marin would go on a run, Tam would step in and shut them down.
Junior Ava West was asked what the team could work on to be even better after the dominant win, “We need to work on our communication and keeping a positive attitude throughout the whole game.”
Eva Hart had an outstanding game at the right side hitter position with various spikes, hitting the ball at surprising velocity. Willa Kruse started the game hot as well with a spike to win the first set. The Sandgren sisters, Emmy and Charlotte, however, were a must watch. Emmy came up with four kills and five blocks at the net, complimenting her sister Charlotte who had strong spikes in the outside hitter position.
