Coming into Wednesday’s matchup, Tam was on a five game winning streak and was looking to extend it, while Marin Catholic lost 11-1 to Marin Academy in their last contest. Throughout the season the Hawks defense has been the team’s best phase, and it showed against MC, as the Hawks shut out the Wildcats.
“Our defense was really strong, which also contributed to our offense,” Tam junior Sophia Uhlhorn-Thornton said. Although Tam controlled the lead throughout the game, MC’s defense stayed consistent throughout the matchup, limiting the team to only five first half goals, and six in the second. “We used each of our strengths to contribute to great defensive execution,” Tam junior Harper Buck said. Tam’s defense was characterized by shot prevention, blocks, and steals. “Our defense played fairly well, making it challenging for MC to shoot,” coach Bob Palmer said, referring to Tam’s defensive execution. Tam looks to utilize their defense, and increase offensive production in their matchup with Campolindo on Tuesday, Oct. 7.
