Tam left the Morro Bay basketball tournament with confidence after going 3-1, winning their last two games. On Thursday they started off as the underdogs against a tough Atascadero squad led by junior Robert Berwick, but was able to pull out the win thanks to a great defensive effort. The Hawks held the greyhounds to just 46 points, winning 52-46. Tam lost to San Luis Obispo the next day but was able to counter that with back-to-back wins on Saturday against Nipomo and Fallbrook respectively.
“We were mad about that loss. Coach told us that we had to focus on the next game the next day, so we got focused,” said senior Ethan Rosenberg.
And focused they were; Tam dominated Nipomo 62-23 followed by a solid win against Fallbrook 58-35. These two wins helped the Hawks finish the tournament with a winning record and a lot of confidence headed towards the rest of their schedule.
“The tournament was a great experience for our team,” said junior Sammy Huffman, “we were challenged on many levels and for the most part, rose to the occasion. We had one tough loss but that only made us hungrier to go out and get two more W’s [to] finish the tournament at 3-1.”
