In the final home game of the season and with an MCAL playoff berth on the line, the boys’ varsity basketball team just couldn’t keep up with Redwood, losing 52-29.
The first quarter started off with both teams exchanging points, but Redwood went on a 12-0 run to end the quarter 4-16. The 2nd quarter was much of the same, but senior and Tam News reporter Joe Laland hit a nice bucket making it 29-14 Redwood going into halftime.
In the 2nd half, Tam was unable to stop the barrage of scoring by Redwood. Junior Lorenzo Jordan made a nice three-pointer to try and spark a comeback, but instantly Redwood went on a 7-0 run. In the end, Redwood was able to seal the win and move on to the MCAL playoffs.
“It was disappointing because there was so much riding on it,” said senior point guard Joe Laland (also a member of the Tam News). “They just came out hungrier than us, our shots didn’t fall, so it just didn’t work out.”
The hawks still have NCS playoffs to look forward to after MCALs, and hope to host their game in the first round.
In terms of their strategy going forward, Laland said that they want “Just to get back on the courts. We’re installing a new defense so we’re looking forward to it.”
