The Tam varsity girls’ soccer team won a tight game on March 12 against Drake in their MCAL opener . The Hawks started off hot getting an early goal from sophomore Bella Amyx, making the score 1-0. Tam was able to maintain the lead throughout the game thanks to great defensive stops near goal from sophomore Lauren Lampen and senior Katie Gillespie. In the second half, Amyx had a couple close opportunities to score but was denied by the Drake goalie. Late in the second half, Drake had a close shot on goal but luckily the ball ricocheted off the crossbar, sealing the win.
“Always good to get that first win in MCALs,” said Coach Shane Kennedy. “We’re real happy to get the win, we got a lot of young players and you could tell they were nervous.
“I think we played we really well,” said Amyx. “We showed the rest of MCAL what we’re made of and we want to show them that we’re dangerous and I think we did just that.”
Even with the win, Coach Kennedy knows there are areas that need improvement. “I think we gotta posses the ball a little more and be a little more patient. We were a little nervous, a little tight, and we just need to keep the ball more, that’s one of the things we do.”
