Tam varsity football rallied late in the game on October 4 to defeat Justin Sienna 27-24, thanks to an outstanding defensive effort in the second half. Justin Sienna had control early, leading the game 24-14 at half. In the fourth quarter the game’s momentum shifted completely when Justin Sienna fumbled a punt that was recovered by junior Pablo Salinas. On the following drive, senior Marcus Viscardi ran his way into the end zone, leaving the Hawks trailing by three points. After Tam held Justin Sienna on defense, senior Weston Lazarus quarterback sneaked for the go ahead touchdown and the win.
“We had a really strong second half and made a few big plays that put us in a position to win,” senior running back Aseal Birir (145 yards and 1 touchdown) said.
“The kids never stopped playing hard and [we] believed that we would prevail,” head coach Jon Black said. “This puts us in the driver seat in regard to making the playoffs for the third year in a row.”
