The Varsity Tam Girls’ Soccer team faced off against the Drake Pirates in a MCAL semifinal match up on Wednesday, May 7th. Tam came right out of the gate with a goal in the fifth minute scored by junior, Isabella Amyx. Then later on in the first half, Amyx struck again, this time in the seventeenth minute. Freshman Callie Clifford assisted on both goals. With no scoring in the second half, Tam went on to win 2-0 and advance to face a tough Marin Catholic team in the MCAL Championship. The girls tied Marin Catholic 2-2 earlier in the season.
“I was really happy with the win even though I think we could have scored a few more,” said Clifford. “But our intensity and effort definitely showed that we were there to win. Drake’s defense was physical but didn’t compare to our defense. Since we were faster and more technical we could get past them and have plenty of opportunities.”
Tam coach Shane Kennedy weighed in on how the second half was different.
“In the first half I thought we played really well. In the second half they made some adjustments and I thought the game was more to their liking.”
Despite the victory, senior goalie Liz Archer is already focused on the next game.
“Our team is fairly young,” said Archer, “we need to go in on Friday focused and ready to play. We’ve wanted another chance to play MC and this is the perfect opportunity to come out and bury them.”
If Tam wins on Friday , both the Boys and Girls Soccer teams will have won the MCAL Championship this year.
