After Nathan Severin’s departure last year to become Drake’s athletic director, Tam was left without a diving coach. Haley Quinn was hired this year to fill in the empty position in the program. Quinn additionally is involved in Tam’s special education program.
“My husband got a job in the city. So, we just moved here. I heard that this was a really great school and I applied,” she said. “So, I’m here on campus everyday and it’s fun to kind of have interactions with all the students here.”
Quinn has no prior coaching experience but brings to the table a substantial resumé of diving experience. She dove in college for Brigham Young University just last year prior to moving to the bay area. Quinn started diving at age six.
“I liked flipping and twisting and kind of challenging myself, and I thought it was a better route landing in water, than doing gymnastics and potentially getting hurt. So, water’s more forgiving I guess. So that’s why I chose diving,” she said.
Quinn looks to coach the diving team to success this year, in order to earn some extra points for Tam’s coexisting swim team.
