The girls varsity volleyball team lost to Redwood on Wednesday, September 27, in just three sets: 25-14, 25-13, and 25-16. The Hawks only had the lead once the entire game, but lost it immediately after starting off the third set 2-0. Neither of the first two sets were very competitive as the Giants were in sync and their hitters proved to be too much for the Hawks. However, the Hawks made the Giants earn the third set, rallying to 15-21 after being down 10-18.

“I thought we played pretty well,” said head coach Ray Karter, “Redwood is one of the top teams in the league and I thought we didn’t back down.” Despite the Hawks being down two sets right away, they went on their own run in the third set, proving they weren’t going to give up easily.

“I think we did really well,” said freshman Olivia Smith. “I think we did a good job staying positive. I think we could talk a little more, but other than that I think we played really well.”

One reason for the Hawks to stay positive is their youth. “We’re young, we want to improve our fundamentals right now,” said Karter. “If we can execute a little bit better some of the in-game errors that we make will go away and we will get a lot better.”

The Hawks next match is at Justin-Siena on Monday, October 2, at 5:30 p.m.
