The girls varsity basketball team suffered their second MCAL defeat of the season on Tuesday, losing to Redwood on the road 37-29. The game was tightly contested throughout, as Tam came out firing, establishing an early 11-8 lead at the end of the first quarter. However, Tam’s offense sputtered as the game progressed, scoring just 10 points in the entire second half.

Tam was anchored by senior co-captain and center Kate Finn, who scored 8 points with 7 rebounds, 4 blocks, and 6 steals. “I think overall we played better defense then we have in the past couple games. We still need to be a little more focused throughout the whole game and finish strong,” Finn said. “Personally, I need to stay out of foul trouble… [We] were in foul trouble early, which I think hurt us down the stretch.”

Senior co-captain Kimi Wu also attributed the loss to bad fouls, as well as excessive turnovers. “I think that we played a good game. We went in with a goal to start strong and we executed that, but we had a lot of fouls and a few too many turnovers which added up to cost us the game,” she said.

With a 4-2 MCAL record in third place, Tam is optimistic and ready to improve. “We’re going to work on our focus before the games and discipline on defense. We want to deepen the bench and improve our conditioning,” Wu said.

Finn echoed similar sentiment, and emphasized that the team is concentrated only on winning their next game. “[The Redwood game] wasn’t our whole season, and we are gonna keep working hard and we’re gonna stay focused on winning MCAL again. To bounce back, we’re gonna take it one game at a time and stay focused,” she said.
