Tam fell to Redwood on Tuesday, January 16 in a highly anticipated boys’ varsity basketball matchup. he Hawks came out with a 52-46 loss, just their third time all season not reaching 50 points, after winning 60-57 at Marin Catholic and 77-55 over Novato, in their previous matchup

Redwood got off to a hot start, but the game went back and forth until halftime with neither team catching fire. Redwood headed into halftime leading 27-21.

Empty possessions summarize this matchup, as both teams struggled to both hit shots and hold onto the ball. The Hawks took a brief lead headed into the fourth, quarter up 33-32, but quickly lost it as the game slowly slipped away from them.

They became overmatched and could not string together quality possessions towards the final minutes. They saw their 35-34 lead turn into a 40-35 deficit, then a 45-38 deficit as Tam baskets became few and far between.  The Hawks showed some signs of life in the final minutes as Senior Noah Haynesworth converted an and-1 layup and Senior Jack Duboff hit a deep three pointer to make it a four point game with under a minute left, but those would be their last points of the game.

Ultimately what kept the team  out of the game was was its poor  ball security and dry shooting. They missed plenty of open looks, notably Senior Jack Duboff shooting 5/16 and Senior Ryan Hemmeter shooting 4/12. The team collectively shot 27% from the three point line and totaled 13 turnovers.

This was the Hawks  first MCAL loss of the season, and they will look to bounce back against the unbeaten Branson to stay in the running for the top seed in MCAL. As of now they sit in second place, tied with Redwood at 5-1.
