The girls’ varsity volleyball was defeated by the Terra Linda Trojans in a lively Gus Gym on September 7. The Hawks, playing in their first MCAL match under new coach Ray Karter, ultimately lost in the fifth set.

The match opened with the Trojans going on a 13-4 run that powered them to a first set win. However, Tam battled back and played more cohesively as a team to win the second set 25-20. After the two teams split the next two sets, Terra Linda was able to pull out a 15-11 win in a closely contested fifth set, sealing the match.

Despite the result, coach Karter was pleased with the match his team played. The team is looking to improve on struggles from prior seasons after going winless in MCAL play and 5-22 overall last year. Coach Karter is looking to help build this team and improve through playing smarter and “thinking on the court” as well as execution. “If we execute well we can make good choices,” he said.
