Varsity water polo looks to rise to top

St. Ignatius defeated Tam’s boy’s varsity water polo team 11-8 at home on Thursday, Aug. 29, marking the start of the season.

“We let that one get away from us. SI is a tough team. It is the first game of the year, and we made a couple of mistakes, but overall we played pretty tough. We should be one of the top teams in our league and in the North Coast Section. We’ve been working hard, and we will be fine,” coach Bob Kustel said.

Senior Ethan Ziener echoed Kustel’s confidence in his team.

“We did well, but not well enough. We can still practice a lot and get a lot better, and next [time] we play them get the W out of it,” Ziener said, adding, “Hopefully we can win MCALS. We have a great shot this year.”

Since Tam’s first game, their standing is 3-4, with their next game on Wednesday, Sep. 18 against Northgate.
