This afternoon, the Tamalpais high school athletic department finalized their decision to terminate the employment of head varsity football coach Anthony Mejia. Mejia served as the head coach for two seasons, totaling six wins and 15 losses. This season was a disappointment for the program, as they failed to make the playoffs, ending the season 3-7. The struggles came as a bit of a surprise to supporters of the team, because of their perceived talent. Junior quarterback Henry Tuttle said “I am super excited for a new coach. A successful coach could single handedly turn around this program.” Many players, including Tuttle, are excited to have new opportunities with a new coach. With a lot of returning talent for next season, Tam hopes to get back to their winning ways. However, having a new coach will come with its challenges like learning a new offensive and defensive scheme. Tuttle said, “I have never had a coach released like this before, therefore it is a new experience, but with every new experience comes a new opportunity.” The athletic department has already reached out internally to fill the position. The players hope for a new coach who can take advantage of the talent in the program, and lead them to their first winning season since the 2023 season.
