Coming off of a tight 1-0 victory against Archie Williams last Friday, Dec 5, the Hawks varsity soccer team looked to extend their win streak at home, on Monday against Terra Linda. They did so dominantly, with a decisive 5-0 victory.
Coach Shane Kennedy said regarding the game, “We want to improve as a team. We were less focused about winning, and more about developing.” The standout from the Hawks dominant victory was sophomore Marco Caruso. A consistent goal scorer, Caruso contributed often against the Trojans, with four goals before coach Kennedy subbed him off. “Marco’s doing what he should be doing,” Kennedy added. When Caruso was asked about his thoughts coming into the game he cited, “Preparation and consistency.” And after? “I did my part, and then I did more.”
Because the Hawks went up 3-0 before halftime, players like Leo Van Horne and Sam Coates got to see their first varsity minutes in the second half. A late second half goal from Buba Mané increased the lead to 5-0, before the final whistle blew. The Hawks won’t have much time to celebrate their victory. They play at home on Wednesday against Montgomery.
