Tamalpais girls soccer entered their league play with a season record of 2-6-2, but it’s a mark that doesn’t fully show the team’s recent momentum. After the season started strong with a victory in a scrimmage over strong San Francisco private school Saint Ignatius, the Hawks momentum slowed. They started the official season 0-5 with losses to strong non-league schools such as California, Cardinal Newnan, and Urban.
Rather than letting those early losses define them, the Hawks went 2-0-1 in the next three matches, showing clear improvement on both sides of the pitch. The Hawks are determined to not let these non-league games define them, as the ‘real season’ starts now, with league matches starting last Monday.
As a scorer, Lauren Willard has been a standout player for the Hawks, leading their team in goals with four and tying for the team lead in assists with two. “Yeah, we definitely had a rough start to the season so far,” Willard said, “A lot of that came from being a really young team. We have 8 underclassmen and have had a good amount of injuries so far.” However, Willard has seen a lot of improvement from the young team saying, “As the season’s gone on, we’ve grown a lot, learned from all of our losses, and you can really see us trending upward now.” The Hawks won their first league game at home against San Marin by a score of 2-0. They play a non-league match kicking off at home on Friday.
