The Tam varsity football team is currently undefeated through their first three games. After knocking off St. Patrick, St. Vincent and Petaluma High, the Hawks rolled through the Redwood Giants in a non-league game, 28-14. Senior quarterback Al Gant van Vliet put Tam on the board early in the first quarter, with a 6-yard touchdown run. Fellow senior Sel Butler gave Tam plenty of cushion heading into the second half, with 2 touchdown catches in the second quarter, leaving them with a 21-0 halftime lead.

In the second half however, Redwood bounced back, scoring their first points of the game on a 64-yard touchdown drive, capped by a 21-yard pass from Redwood senior Zack Dubin to senior Ryland Burke. Late in the game, Butler, playing on defense, intercepted a pass from 85 yards out, taking it back for a touchdown to finish off the game.

Senior linebacker and captain Jon Finkelstein attributed the teams early success to dedication in the weight room. “We put a ton of work in this offseason in the weight room with an actual workout plan, and it’s really paid off.”

On September 15, Tam looks to stay undefeated and improve to 4-0 in a non-league away game against Terra Linda.
