The varsity football team beat San Rafael 54-6 for their seniors’ day game on October 31. For seniors Davon Cunningham, Treyvon Cunningham, Kimo Karp, Riley Walls, (a Tam News reporter) Wanya Williams, Brett Quai Hoi, Trenten Francis, Brian Rivas, and Sasha Damore, it was their last regular season home game of the season.

“We started off hot, and we were able to score, kind of at will, for the first couple of series, and it allowed us to play some younger guys on defense. So, for us, it’s a great game,” head coach Jon Black said.

Tam struck first less than five minutes into the game with a touchdown run by running back and junior Tre’chaun Berkley. Tam would tally another two touchdowns with successful extra point kicks in the first quarter, making the score 21-0.

In the second quarter, San Rafael scored their only points of the game halfway into the quarter. Davon Cunningham blocked the extra point attempt, and their number would remain at six.

Tam would continue to add insurance with touchdowns scored from Williams, Berkley, Davon Cunningham, and fullback, tight end, and junior Jack Dickson leading up to and through the fourth quarter.

With the score 47-6 and just over three minutes left in the game, running back, outside linebacker, and sophomore Gabe Villavicencio, ran for a 65 yard touchdown, his first of the season. With the successful extra point kick, the score would cease at 54-6.

Walls made six out of the eight extra point kicks available, as eight touchdowns total were recorded by Tam.

“Everybody played with smiles on their faces, everybody had fun, so that’s what made the game exciting,” Berkley said. “It feels good to win after a long time,” said quarterback and junior Jack Harris, referring to the past losing streak the team had gone through.

Additionally, seniors reflected on the impact and importance of the game. “It was a really important game for me, the last home game, probably my last home game ever for playing football,” Williams said. “It was a good season.”

“It was very exciting. From the start, I had a feeling we were going to win. I was a little bit nervous, but after we got the celebrating and all, and we saw our parents here to celebrate us, I had a good feeling that we were going to win this game,” said Davon Cunningham.
